You know. I was feeling kind of down today. Then I saw this. Cuts are retarded. This is amazing. Skip to 1:10 for win.
Back on topic. I impressed myself Wednesday. I made one of the most difficult decisions I've made in recent memory. Choosing between exactly what I wanted, and what was right. I'm happy I made the right decision, but at the same time I'm worried I might never have the chance again. I'm hoping I do. So I can go after with with a clean conscience.
Also. Andrew WK is singing about Gundam. |

| | Eerily silent. I haven't recovered my media drive yet. | ] | Built the new PC today. Had a hiccup or two as it was, shock and surprise, the power supply all along! I'm a little irked I wound up building an entire new box, but, I'm not upset. It's really nice, and it's a HUGE jump from my old piece of crap. Tonight is uptime stress test and tomorrow will be max load testing. So far it's exceeding all my expectations, and I don't even have my video card in yet. Thursday I'll head out to Microcenter and get myself a nice Antec PSU, I figure 500, 550 should be enough.
I tore my room apart today, moved some stuff around and did a good bit of dusting. My TV is now on top of my entertainment center, and my stereo is now in the tv area. It makes sense to me. Winding down now. In all my cleaning I found a gift from a very old girlfriend, a candle and oil diffuser, the candles are long sense melted to nothing, but I still have both little jars of oil. I found a tea candle to place in it. It's surprisingly soothing. Moreover, I don't look at it with the same malice I did, just a gentle melancholy. I never could destroy anything I'd gotten from her, I still even have old pictures. I'm such a sentimental fool. Things feel different now. The item itself isn't a representation of the bad memories anymore. I don't know what to make of it. It smells wonderful.
Tomorrow will be an eventful day I'm sure. Much more cleaning abounds, as well as more PC work, and even a little painting. I was trusted by a friend to paint a large scale model for him. I'm actually quiet enthusiastic to try it, a great variance from the apathy I seemingly hold for my own models. With luck this will motivate me to finish the mountains of pieces of my own I still have to work on.
It's coming up on 3AM now, I still have a good deal of cleaning left to do. Though it hasn't been long since my last entry, somehow, I feel better. I feel like I have some tiny idea of what I need to do now. Goodnight. |

[Apr. 28th, 2009|05:13 am] |
Hey Livejournal, so it seems I'm a giant liar. I haven't posted in quite a while. I've been frustrated to no end lately. It seems like my usual places of refuge haven't provided the same comfort they used to. I worry things may be catching up with me. The things I did in my past are impacting my life today. The bridges I burned. The bridges I ran from. The bridges I was too scared to cross.
I've been regretting decisions lately. It seems like once a night I'm visited by the repercussions of days long past. I still look for the places my life diverged from the bright future I was so sure I had. I can count on both hands the decisions and events that wrenched that potential away from me. The choices I made locking doors behind me.
Christ, these first two paragraphs read like bad poetry. But I'm not going to wipe them out. Part of moving on is accepting where I am now. While I won't divulge the myriad of poor decisions I've made, I won't try to hide the crisis I face today. Crisis is a strong word, perhaps too strong. I ask myself if it's time the throw the past away and move on, but I still feel like there are wrongs I haven't righted yet, and sins I haven't atoned for. Not in a manner of faith, or God, but simply to myself. Until that business is settled, I can't be.
Jeez that paragraph was garbage too! Fuck it. Today I ran into someone. A natural one on my encounter table. I had the luxury of a moment to mentally prepare, however, it was seemingly unnecessary, for once I was on the other end of the mea culpa. All over again I wasn't sure how to feel. Memories from years ago I'd painted black with anger returned, taunting with with feeling feelings. A situations I was certain would turn hostile, was instead pleasant. Not only that I actually extended myself to new personae, something I'd always resisted. I consciously worry that I'm ignoring the other shoe, poised to drop, and crush my small sense of progress.
WHAT THE FUCK. This entry is terrible as hell. Right now I'm gonna talk about a pizza I got today. Because it's GOT to be better than all this preceding crap. It was 7:30-ish and House was on in half an hour. If I wanted pizza I'd have to order it right then. So I ordered it from the homeowned placed up the street. Take out there is awesome as hell. So I picked that stuff up, JUUUUUST missed the cold open for house but caught the opening credits. Grabbed a glass and some soda and sat down with that badboy. Best episode of house in a LONG time. I was happy to see cut throat bitch back, sorta. Regardless episode was good. Pizza was great! Began the premise of a joke I'd finish later than night. (actually wrote the bastard down).
Seeing some initial interest in MBYPOQ2! Which is awesome because we're still six months out from the actual show. I'd like to see a trailer or promo online by June. I've actually been keeping a notebook in my purse incase I ever come up with anything, and it's actually served me well. Got a good few bits written in, some of them even fleshed out a good ways. I'm looking forward to getting it all put together, and ultimately, showtime!
See you later livejournal. |

| Whirlwind Week |
[Mar. 15th, 2009|02:54 pm] |
MAN has it been a busy week. While I can't say I actually accomplished anything meaningful, it was a damn good time.
Spent last Friday at Gordons place, wound up riding with him to drop people off at a concert. People were selling bootleg tshirts on I94, I tried not to make eye contact. It was packed as hell in front of cobo, not to mention it was storming like all hell. Dropped people off and headed back for some SF4 and apples to apples, good times.
Went to pick people up from cobo with Gordon, because hell, it's a fun ride. Saw the shiniest pants I've ever seen and a large black man in a Bruce Lee jacket, I tried not to make eye contact. Back to Gordons, more Street Fighter, realized I'm fairly decent with Sakura. Dailylight savings snuck up and it was time to head home... at 5AM.
Home by 6AM, bed by 6:30, sleep for three hours, get back up. Headed out to Utica to go catch Watchmen with a friend. Took advantage of the free tickets from best buy so it was a pretty cheap opportunity. While I was out used a Dave and Busters coupon for Buy 20 Get 20, I never realized how nice those monthly coupons are until recently. I'll be making a point of using them even if I'm not playing that day, and just stock up on cheap credits then go play on a Wednesday for half price, now if only they'd upgrade their Pump machine.
Swung by borders and used a coupon I had there, loving coupons lately, why not spend less money. After that we went up to Games Workshop for bitz day. There was a kid there selling the SM half of a Black Reach box (Worth about 30 dollars) for a hundred. Even his friends didn't know what he was thinking, I took the opportunity to make a spectacle of him by telling everyone that he wasn't an idiot, he was hoping the rest of us were and would make a tidy profit on our stupidity. I shook his had a couple times, tipped my had to him, tipped other peoples hats to him. I'm pretty sure he ran out of the store and looked for a car to jump in front of. I felt a little bad for giving this kid the third degree, but stores like that are full of predatory asshats who Would try to pull off a stunt like that on some poor unsuspecting person. I was a little pleased with myself too, to pull that out without one dirty word.
Swung by Best Buy to take advantage of one of the anime closeout stores. Grabbed Gurren Lagann Sub 2 and 3 finishing out the set, I already own the dub discs, but I didn't really have a problem supporting Bandai bringing out sub-only discs in a hurry. After that, off to star southfield for Watchmen. I'd never read the book so I didn't have any preconceptions to be underwhelmed by. I enjoyed it. Grabbed Chipotle, went back to his place, did some putzing and headed home.
A busy weekend like none other, and the best one I'd had in some time. I'd figured I'd spent my stash of karma and was headed for some boring days ahead. This is a terrible segue to the fact that I bought a 360. I'd been meaning to for some time, but never got to it. Picked one up used from a med student, damn good deal too. System, 2 controllers, Gears2 and COD4 for 200. I did all my homework calling MS with the serial number making sure it was still under warranty, making sure it wasn't banned from Live. When everything checked out I went to go grab it. Guy couldn't have been nicer, let me test it in his home, he obviously had nothing to hide. Paid the man, shook his hand and I was on my way.
Stopped by the gamestore on the way home, realized I was never going to play COD4 ever, wound up trading that and buying go figure, Street Fighter 4 instead, a definite winner in my book. Got everything setup, got Live working and started adding friends. (M-Brotip: Was there anyone I missed? If so let me know) Played some SF to unlock Sakura and Dan then called it a night. Next day I headed to the rental store and set up with their game rental program thing. 35 a month for two games out at a time, hell, you can't buy games for that. Grabbed RE5 and Fallout 3, after 2 days I'm almost done with RE5, good call on the renting.
And here we are today, it's 3:30 now, the sun is shining, I bet it's semi-decent outside, I think I'm going to take the dog out for a bit. |

| | DCD Op... Repeatedly | ] | I can't believe it's been a week since my last post. Time really flies lately. It seems odd, as outside of one large event, very little has happened. It makes me wonder if I'm spending my time in a meaningful manner. I almost feel like I'm slacking a bit. Winter always makes me lethargic.
Not a whole lot's gone down since my last post. Hung out with my dad a bit. Watched a bootleg copy of Gran Torino he got. I'm so proud of him. I was worried that he wouldn't adapt well to a new digital age. I remember years ago I had to program in the numbers on his mobile phone for him. Over the past few years he's been slowly warming up to technology, and internet culture as a whole. He actually asked me how to cut and paste text from one website to another. It takes a little while for him to grasp the concept, and it usually involves cheat sheets on stickynotes, but once he learns the system through and through he has it down pat. I'm really happy he's embracing the way of the world.
Beyond that, for the first time in years he and I made chicken noodle soup. It was a two day process. The first day we just left the chicken in water slow and low all damn day. By nightfall it was falling apart. Took the chicken out and called it a night. Added the rest of the stuff the next day, another day of slow and low. Added some Vegeta (The sodium is over 9000(God I want to die right now)), stir stir stir, and that shit was done, and it was FANTASTIC. It's almost a stew with the sheer amount of substance in the broth. Had a bowl, took home some for another dinner. (I already ate it... ;_;)
I guess there was some party too. Nothing really important happened there. Except, oh, I saw everyone I hadn't seen in about a billion forevers, it was great. I wasn't planning on going, until I realized that my pyramid of excuses (I have to work in the morning, It's too far, Gas is too expensive) weren't really holding water. So I made the trek out to Robs. Only made one wrong turn on the way there (A personal record!) Greeted by a few wide eyes when I got there. I don't think anyone thought I'd actually show. Worked on finishing some infused vodka that was started before I arrived, thankfully I'd already finished 12 ounces at home that I brought with me (That stuff VANISHED). Hung out with Lauren and Neel (Who I haven't seen in at least a year) while Vinh played beepy music (Holy hell he got good in a hurry). Lauren headed out early. Nick showed up just then (Another person I haven't seen in YEARS) wound up just hanging around, watching Nick hand Greg his ass at SF4. Played Rockband with Neel, Nick and Rob. I noticed the snow at half past 3 in the morning and decided it was time to call it an evening. I had the best time. I'll be sure to make the next one. Count on it.
Pretty dull week up until the exclamation point at the end. Dreary days come and go. I could actually see the grass for a few days. Shame the snow is back. Hopefully it'll go away soon. |

| | Teriyaki Boyz - Work That | ] | I'm fairly certain this is the earliest I've ever posted. Technically it's also the latest. You see, I didn't sleep. Wound up staying up until 4am taking to a friend, playing some WoW, watching Den-O. Clock rang four and it was time for bed. Brushed my teeth and laid down planning on listening to a podcast until I fall asleep. (I know it's working when I realize that I must have missed half an hour somewhere, then it's time to take the headphones off and roll over.)
Tonight that plan didn't seem to work. Stayed awake for the entire hour. Flipped through some new music. Still couldn't sleep, decided on more music. Big mistake, wound up getting inspiration for an intro to this years Youma videos, laid in bed thinking it through, listening to the track over and over until I was pleased with how it looked in my head. Content with that I decided to give sleep a try. But doubt was there. Doubt that I'd forget this perfect little masterpiece. That when I woke up it wouldn't be all there, or if it was, it'd be slightly off. Well fuck.
Got outta bed, grabbed a pen and paper and started jotting down specifics. Start and end times. A tiny storyboard. Ugh, between standing up, turning the lights on and scribbling down ideas I was solidly awake. Damnit. It was half past six. What the hell was I going to do? Wound up inspired enough to do some situps. Not quite sure why, just seemed like a good idea. That led to push-ups (lawl). That led to riding the stationary bike for 50 minutes and clearing nine miles before I decided it was time to stop.Up and full of vigor, I wound up doing the dishes that didn't get done last night. Cleaned up the kitchen. Poured a big glass of water.
It's 8am now. I just started a load of laundry. Good god. I have barely enough for two loads. I'm washing up the clothes I'm taking to salvation army. Had enough to do a load of socks. I don't always get to put shoes on when the dog wants to go outside RIGHT. NOW. so I usually get soaked socks pretty often. Either way that'll be a load. I figure I can be done with laundry by 10am if I'm lucky. God I'm usually not even UP by 10am. It's 8:11 right now. I'm tidying up my room. I think I'll vacuum once everyone is awake.
If this is any indication. This will be a productive day or, I'm going to crash hard for stupidly not sleeping and then pushing myself to actually DO things. Either way. I'm excited for the day. I think I'm gonna go shovel snow. Bye! |

| | Lonely Island - I'm on a Boat! | ] | Just got home with my car. I'm walking on air. It almost feels like I got my soul back just now. Got a message from the second garage I took it to while I was taking the dog to the vet for some minor surgery. Checked messages when I got back, gave him a call. Estimate was around $200 after parts, tax and labor. I had to take a second to think about it before I told him to do it.
Since it was half past three when I talked to him, I'd figured it'd be tomorrow before he had the opportunity to work on it. Color me surprised when he called at a bit past six saying it was done. Got up there and payed. Drove up 26 Mile a bit to gas up (1.93 for mid-grade makes me smile), drove a bit farther to make sure the engine wasn't about to overheat on me. I started getting worried when it started getting hot inside the car, then I realized my heat was on. I don't think I'd ever used it that much since I got that car in 2005, so it was a surprise, needless to say it's working just fine now. Grabbed some beverages from Meijers up the road and headed home.
I have my car back. Shit is officially ON. |

| | shouji meguro - blues in the velvet room | ] | A few days go by and not a whole lot has changed. I'm not even sure why I'm posting. I guess I need to get back in the habit of it. I'd rather not let the clock on the frontpage get up to two weeks again, or even one week if I'm lucky. That said, more worthless posting!
My hands smell like fabric softener. I've been slacking a bit on laundry. It's horrible. Today I bit the bullet and did it all. It's spooky to see that many shirts hanging in my closet again. I'm a little upset because one the graphic on one of my Roots26 shirts is starting to crack. It kinda irks me, but really it goes to show just how much life I'm getting out of that shirt. After hanging everything up I'm running low on hangers, I should probably buy some more.
Took my car in to the shop today. Cracked thermostat housing. Ugh, what a fucking joy. The estimate they gave me was $495 plus a diagnostic fee, which struck me as off. Asked a few people for recommendations on a reputable garage, all three recommended one in particular, good enough for me. Picked up my car from the first garage, paid their pittance, and drove it over to the new garage, it was nearly closing when I got it there so they wouldn't be able to start until tomorrow, but they said based on the other garages diagnostic it'd run $240-$300, which is a better no doubt. They'll call me tomorrow with the final cost. I hope it's not too wallet-raping.
Wound up tidying my room today. Changed a few posters around. Moved my computer up from under my desk. Rehung my Distorted tapestry. It's a little wrinkled, I wonder if it's safe to iron them? I'll have to ask Jon next time he's on. Beyond that I assembled my last Tachikoma model, I'll be playing with how I want to display my figures over the next while. Filed some comics I still haven't read. I'm getting Really behind in reading, thankfully I'm still grabbing the books I want to read. I'm horrible with my indulgences for my hobbies.
Speaking of indulgences after seven years I finally got a new messenger bag. I'd been checking one out for quite some time. Just so happened I saw it on sale a few weeks back and I just had to have it. It's a little bigger than my current bag. It has a metal clasp for the lip. I hurriedly populated it with some nice pens and sharpies (because you just never know), and splurged on two 005 micron pens. I know they're meant for far more lofty purposes than riding around in my bag and taking the occasional note, but I'm a pen snob. I love them so much. It always takes me a little time to get used to them because theres almost no contact with the paper, but it flows so well. I love it.
Did a bit of computer work today. A friend built his new PC and handed off his old video card. It's only a revision or two beyond what I was currently running, but it was enough to solve a few issues I'd been having. Particles aren't swamping my anymore. Doing a little research I had a cripplewear version of the high-end (Explain that) card two generations back so odds are it was never meant to handle that kind of output. It's all fixed now though, no more random lockups, and I was able to push a few games a little farther. I'm still going to have to build a new one sooner or later. I want to have a solid PC for Fallout 3 and Starcraft 2 (whenever it comes out).
Lately I've been watching a lot more media than I had been. Abusing Hulu regularly to catch up on House. It's annoying the shows been a little lousy lately, but I'm hoping it'll pick itself up and get back on track. Burn Notice has been another treat, I've been enjoying it enough to actually join a LJ community for it and sit in the aim chats when the episodes air. Lots of girls squealing for pretty boys, but it's still fun. Beyond domestic shows, Kamen Rider Decade has been owning my life, that show cannot come out fast enough. I actually stopped writing this entry when I realized that episode 3 was done downloading. It's really good so far, though I'm still scratching my head at some odd moments. TVNs message board had some people suggesting watching a previous series so I can really appreciate the fangasm that Decade seems to be giving people. I grabbed Den-O on their recommendation, almost done with the batch downloading. That'll give me something to watch while I wait for Decade 4. I also started watching Garo, because everyone tells me it's really good. Four episodes in I'm really digging it, though I wonder about some of the foreshadowing.
Wow, this turned into a really long post. I'm kind of surprised. I didn't think I had that much to talk about. But, like I said, I don't ever want to let that "Days since last post" counter tick up that high ever again. Sadly it's also 4AM, I think it's time for bed. |

| [ | music |
| | shouji meguro - electronica in the velvet room | ] | According to the front page I haven't posted in two weeks. This is slightly a lie, I haven't posted anything of substance in far longer. I usually shy away from posting because it seems trivial to blather on and on when I have nothing worth saying.
Days have been uneventful. For the first three weeks of the month I house sat for my dad while he spent some time at his condo in Florida. He got a renter for February and March so he went down to take inventory, clean house, and dodge a solid three weeks of winter, that lucky bastard. It was nice to spend some time away from home. It was almost like a tiny vacation to me, despite the fact I was only a few miles from home.
I took full advantage of the leisure time, indulging in all the hobbies I'd been neglecting. Tearing through two different Crichton books simultaneously, re-reading all of Genshiken, catching up on the umpteen comics I buy but never read (actually that's a lie, I'm still dreadfully behind), logging some solid hours on Persona 4 (Only to lose a sessions worth of progress to a BS-death), as well as Kuzunoha Raidou vs The Incredibly Long Title. It was nice to have an expanse of space to mill about. If I ever felt bored reading in one room, I could simply move to another. Gaming was a treat as well in the basement, even if it did get chilly.
More importantly I finally got back to painting. I have at least 3,000 points of figures (Post-Kitting) and at Best I have 750 painted. I'd lent my airbrush to a friend of my fathers at the beginning of December along with my entire paintbox and toolkit. From the date I'd lent him the equipment I'd somehow come into the possession a Marneus Calgar w/ Honor Guard, a Vanguard Veterans Box, a Sergeant Chronus blister, and the Space Marine half of Assault on Black Reach. That is a lot of plastic. Not to mention my first metal figures, and nearly a Dozen of them between all the boxes. It was time to get back to work. Coordinating a paint day with a friend was the best way to get things started. From 8pm to 3am we primed and painted. While I undercoated black everything I had gotten, I spent at least 5 hours painting and assembling Marneus Calgar. While he isn't quite done, he looks Fantastic so far, and I'm excited to field him in my next game.
I was also able to cram in two social outings, not that I had anything but time, but it was a triumph of both planning and spontaneity, first a friend and I went to Gameworks in GLC. I hadn't been there to play in ages. I'd been dying to play DDR for some time. Seems like I'm the only former Semigroover that still likes the game. Regardless, after years of ripping off CJ Barrymores for free stompy, I flat out refuse to pay the highway robbery that arcades ask. A well maintained machine is usually a dollar or upwards around here. Flipside of that coin being the cheap machines are total garbage, at LEAST one dead sensor per side. That aside GW was running their 2 Hours/15 Dollars promotion for the first time since Easter 1998. Taking advantage of the promo we crammed in quite a bit of gaming. The last 45 minutes or so was spent playing Arrow Smashy Super Hollywood Nova, and finding I could still pass some rank 9 songs. While some degree of skill had yet to erode, the stamina I used to have was pretty close to gone. After 45 minutes of singles and doubles we decided it was time to stop, thankfully we'd waited to try it until the cards were in their last hour so it was no major loss. The mall was closing as we left, I was able to run into Games Workshop before they shuttered for the night and grab a figure I'd been eyeing for some time. Parted ways in the parking lot for the long drive home.
The following week a local comic and tabletop store had his quarterly Games Day. I've been buying all my comics from him for years, despite the fact that online or subscription might be cheaper. He's been a part of this town for as long as I can remember and I'm more than happy to give him my patronage. The games day actually coincided with the day my friend came over to paint. He's another comic reading gamer from well out of town. I asked if he wanted to come out for it and it worked out well. We painted, called it a night, got up the next day, went to Michaels and Meijers, then Stevi B's for lunch. After that it was Games Day time, the store was packed with people I'd met at the 2008 Walk for Life (which I'll be doing again this year), lots of games were played. Miracle 5, Ticket to Ride, Monty Python Flux, WoW CMG, and the World of Warcraft Adventure Game (aka how to spend 4 hours playing a board game without realizing it). By the end of the day I was feeling quite warm from the small space crammed with so many people. I'd later realize it was a fever, by the end of the night I started feeling quite sick. Went with friend to Wendy's for dinner. Wasn't feeling hungry. Headed back to dads, felt pretty awful. Helped my friend pack up his paints and models and he went on his way. Wound up falling asleep on the couch.
Beyond that life has been fairly boring. Since dad came home I've been back to doing not a whole lot. I find it very difficult to get excited for games anymore. I have comics piling up to be read. Thankfully book reading hasn't been totally quashed, I picked up the the first the hardcovers of Runaways off the shelf and read them, the first TPB of DMZ, all 11 volumes of Transmetropolitan. I've also started watching Kamen Rider Decade. I've always like the Rider shows, but I find it difficult to get into when I'm ten episodes behind into a series. I have trouble marathoning episodes. Thankfully I was able to get in at episode one for Decade and have been enjoying it a lot. So long as I stay on top of new episodes and don't let myself fall behind I think I'll be fine. I also really need to get around to watching Garo. I hear it's really good.
Filed my taxes online as soon as I got my W-2, I got a nice refund this year, sadly, most if not all of it will be sacrificed to fix my car. Unfortunately my bad luck with cars has finally caught up with me. Something is wrong with the engine, it doesn't seem to be getting coolant and overheats within 15 minutes of turning it on. I worry about the vicious wallet destruction that the repair place will befall upon me. I plan on taking it in to the service center this Sunday. I don't anticipate it will be cheap. Hoo-ray. Sigh.
For an entry where I had nothing to say it sure did go on for a while. Oh yeah, happy birthday Gordon and Paul. |
